Bulawayo residents have stressed their concerns over the escalating numbers of mischievous activities by youths that take the most dangerous drug called Crystal meth popularly known as Guka or Mtoriro.
Straw shaped light bulbs continue to mysteriously disappear without a trace at homes mostly targeted are the ones located outside in the open spaces verandas and garages.
One of the residents who preferred to be anonymous highlighted how drug addicts have quickly turned into bulb thieves.
"If one wants to smoke the crystal meth he or she must have the full apparatus which mainly include a candle or cigarette lighter and a straw shaped globe mainly the glassy side of the bulb".
"Inorder to find a bulb one has a search the rubbish bins for old bulbs but however if one doesn't find it then at night a live working bulb will definitely disappear in one of the neighbourhood home verandas".
"The drug user burns the bulb from beneath using a candle or cigarette lighter to melt the small crystal meth stones and then inhale as the stone starts to melt, the worst part is that it is completely odorless unlike other illegal drugs like mbanje",he said.
Ms Thandie Sithole also highlighted how the dangerous drugs has led to the downfall of many youths.
"Mtoriro is deadly it has killed the youth and the future is in grave danger most of the youths are now school drop outs. Youths are being exposed to dangerous activities daily such as stealing in order to buy drugs",said Ms Sithole.
When the news crew visited the most affected places, it was observed that around L Mzilikazi and some other parts of Makokoba most houses have abandoned the use of straw shaped bulbs and now use the traditional round shaped bulb in fear of continuous stealing by drug users.
The news crew also witnessed a well known mutoriro addict who was carrying an illegal weapon popularly known as "irekeni" with a stone on his other hand saying that the dogs won't follow him this time around he has an advanced weapon.
