ZIMBABWE's Award winning film 'SHAINA' has made it into the world's number one movie streaming platform 'Netflix' and will be available for streaming as from the 29th November 2023 on Netflix Africa.
'Shaina' becomes Zimbabwe's second film to make it on Netflix after 'Cook Off' in 2020.
SHAINA is a Zimbabwean Television film that was written by Wanisai Chigwendere and Directed by Beautie Masvaure Alt.ln the movie, a group of teenagers struggle to find hope after a tragic death. As parents and adults in the community fail them, they must work together to survive and build new lives.

Speaking to BYO ARTS NEWS ONLINE(BANO), Shaina Director Beautie Masvaure Alt could not hide her excitement on the achievement as she expressed how the actors are going to get international recognition.
"It feels amazing that Shaina is coming to Netflix. I am really happy that our cast and crew are getting the recognition they deserve and that this uplifting Zimbabwean story will be showing to international audiences".
“It was an exciting, challenging and rewarding experience to tackle my first feature, telling a story deeply rooted in my home country. I really wanted to highlight the point of view of these young characters, to show the strength and ingenuity needed for these girls and boys to reach for their dreams against overwhelming odds.This is the story of young people in today’s Africa and I wanted the story-telling and visual style to portray that.Every frame, every line had to be authentic to a young audience. I hope my vision for this film will leave a lasting impression,” she said.
Produced by Quizzical Pictures and Impact(Ed) International, the film features Zimbabwe's upcoming and seasoned actors such as Jesesi Mungoshi, Leroy Gopal, Wilmah Munemera, Tinodiwanashe Chitima, Gamu Mukwakwami, Tarumbidzwa Chirume, Tadiwanashe Tsitsi Marowa, and Fadzai Simango, Eddie Sandifolo, Marian Kunonga, and Charmaine Mujeri.
“We’re honoured to continue building the number of African productions on Netflix Africa.The world now recognizes Africa as a major creative centre and the wide array of talent that exists on our continent,” says Executive Producer and Creative Director of Quizzical Pictures, Harriet Gavshon.
SHAINA was released in 2020 through the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and it gives health awareness messages on key issues such as poverty, pregnancy, maternal and child health, gender-based violence, malaria, and tuberculosis.
