Nkulumane, Bulawayo – In the spirit of Christmas, the Men of St. Joseph from Holy Spirit Parish in Nkulumane 12 brought joy and relief to 20 elderly and vulnerable parishioners by donating groceries after Sunday Mass yesterday.
Holy Spirit Parish, part of the Archdiocese of Bulawayo, has been a beacon of faith and community outreach, inspired by this year’s Archdiocesan theme, “My Church, My Responsibility.” This initiative reflects the Catholic Church's commitment to fostering care and solidarity among its members.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Killian Sibanda, Chairman of the St. Joseph Association, emphasized the importance of the gesture, saying,
“Today is an important day for us as we celebrate the eve of Christmas by walking the talk. Christmas is a season of giving, sharing, and most importantly, caring for others. We, as St. Joseph's Association, fully subscribe to the Catholic ethos: ‘Think of others before self.’”
Mr. Sibanda also shared how the initiative has grown since its inception in 2022, when only three parishioners benefited.
“In 2023, we resolved as Catholic men to take care of Golden Boys, Golden Girls, and vulnerable groups. By mobilizing resources together, we ensure that our faith translates into action. Today, another 20 elderly and vulnerable parishioners will benefit from our program,” he said.
The atmosphere at the parish was one of gratitude and celebration, as recipients expressed heartfelt thanks for the much-needed support during this festive season.
The Men of St. Joseph’s charitable act underscores the true meaning of Christmas – giving and caring for those in need. Their dedication to social co-responsibility continues to inspire the community and strengthen the bonds of faith and love within the parish.
As Holy Spirit Parish enters the Christmas season, this initiative stands as a powerful reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big difference, especially for the most vulnerable among us.
