Bulawayo Metropolitan Members of Parliament extended a helping hand to Ingutsheni Hospital yesterday, donating 13 bags of rice to Zimbabwe's largest psychiatric facility, which houses over 650 patients.
The MPs included Hon. Desire Moyo (Nkulumane), Hon. Prince Dube (Entumbane), Hon. Tendai Nyathi (Lobengula/Magwegwe), Hon. Nomvula Mguni (PR), Hon. Lungile Ncube (PR), and Hon. Sikhuphukile Dube (Youth Quota).
During the visit, hospital CEO Dr. Nemache Mawere highlighted their dire water challenges.
"We spent all of last year trying to fix this issue. We have eight boreholes, but the municipality won’t allow borehole water in their pipes. Now we need a water treatment plant, estimated at USD 17,000," he said, adding that the crisis forces the hospital to cook at Mpilo Central Hospital.
The MPs pledged to advocate for support and emphasized the need for sustainable solutions to restore normalcy at the country’s largest psychiatric hospital.
Hon. Desire Moyo described the visit as an opportunity to lend a listening ear. "As MPs, we not only seek to address immediate needs like food supplies but also commit to working with authorities to resolve systemic issues such as water access," he said.
This donation and engagement brought attention to the urgent need for sustainable solutions to support Ingutsheni Hospital's operations.
